Hello, I am Pastor John and I am a lifelong Lutheran who was born in Alameda, CA and raised in Claremont, CA. I attended Lutheran High School in La Verne, CA, and went on to attend Concordia Teachers’ College in Seward, NE. In 1983, I accepted a call and returned to Lutheran High as a History teacher and basketball coach. Later, I was called to teach at Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, Queens, NY. While I was there, I met Martha and we were married in 1990. In 1994, I accepted the call to be principal at Redeemer Lutheran Church and School in Glendale, NY. Our twins, Aaron and Andrew, were born in 1996, and two years after that I took the call to be DCE at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Reno. Martha and the boys remained in NY to sell our house and joined me for our new life in Reno during February 1999. In 2006, I began Seminary training at Concordia University in Irvine, CA. My Seminary education concluded in 2013 and I was ordained into the LCMS (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) roster and accepted the call as Associate Pastor of St. Luke’s, Reno in August of 2014. In April 2018, I took the call to be the Sole Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Gardnerville. After several months of commuting from Reno, Martha and I sold our home there and have settled into our new home in the Carson Valley.
Hi, my name is Laura, and I have been working at Trinity since 1993. I have lived in the Carson Valley area for most of my life, and I have three beautiful children. I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno and earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I also have a Preschool to 2nd grade Nevada teaching license.
I love the field of Early Childhood and I feel very strongly that young children should have a high-quality early childhood experience. This is why I have enjoyed my many years at Trinity. Not only do we have a high-quality program, but we are also able to share the love of Jesus with each other and the children. During my free time, I enjoy reading, gardening and spending time with my family.
I’m Suzie Adam and I am the Church Office Manager for Trinity Lutheran. My family moved from Pennsylvania to Carson City in 1960. I grew up with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. We all attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church, picnicked at Lake Tahoe and had BBQ’s at Bowers Mansion. I love this area!
I spent 30 plus years in different levels as an Administrative Assistant, with a brief period as a dispatcher for the Nevada Highway Patrol.
I graduated from Concordia University, Irvine, CA in 1993 (I was a nontraditional student) with a BA degree in Liberal Studies and a concentration in elementary level teaching. I returned to Carson City in 1993 and worked with the State Government. I retired from State service in 2014. In September 2016, I came to work at Trinity and have enjoyed every minute of being with a loving, caring Christian family!
I like to spend time with my family and friends, and sing in my church choir.
Hi, my name is Lisa. I have the honor of being part of the Trinity team since May, 2002. During this time I have gone from being a part-time bookkeeper to currently holding the position of Business Manager and Assistant Director. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to be a member of such a dedicated staff and to work with our amazing families and their wonderful children.
I am a fourth generation Carson Valley native and grew up on a ranch here in Gardnerville. After graduating from Douglas High School, I attended the University of Nevada, Reno and graduated in 1987 with a BS in Business Administration. I have two wonderful children and in my free time I enjoy hiking, kayaking, traveling, but most of all spending time with my family.
Hello, my name is Carrie, and I started the new position as Communications Director for Trinity in January 2019. This has been my church home since my family moved to the Carson Valley in 1974. My mother, Arlene Lombardo, still resides in the log cabin style home we built as a family back then. I graduated from Douglas High School in 1976, and then spent the next 21 years working for Bently Nevada Corporation in Minden. During that time, I enjoyed the opportunity to study business and information technology at Western Nevada College and AS/400 Computer Operations at various IBM Education Centers around the country.
I met my wonderful husband, Robert in 1995, and together we have one terrific son, Samuel, who was born in 2000. During the early years of my son’s life, I was a caregiver for elderly friends before gaining employment at the local children’s shelter, Austin’s House, which opened in 2007. While I was there for 11 years, I was fortunate to care for more than 500 abused and neglected children from throughout Northern Nevada. Austin’s House remains important to me as unfortunately, the need for the home is great.
My position at Trinity is a blessing at this stage of my life on many levels. I am having a good time catching up on the ever-changing techno world that quickly passed me by during the years I was caregiving. I thoroughly enjoy working with members of my Church Family, our school, the Church at large, and the community on a variety of job duties to keep things interesting. Working for Trinity, feels like coming home again, and I am truly blessed.
Hi, I’m Mark Dorio. I am blessed to be serving the Trinity Lutheran family in two distinct roles. I am the Director of the “Sierra Praise Team,” which is Trinity Lutheran’s Contemporary/Modern Worship Band, and is a premier Christian Worship Band in our area. We feature Christian music mostly from the playlists of radio stations like KYCC (88.1 FM) and KLOVE (93.1 FM). We play for the 4:30 PM Worship with Communion Service every Saturday here at Trinity Lutheran and we are always looking for additional vocalists, so if this is a ministry that you may be interested in being involved with, then please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information!
I am also blessed to be serving with my wife Georgina as Trinity Lutheran’s Co-Youth Ministry Leaders for 6th through 12th grade students and we are even open to including those into young adulthood. Together, Georgina and I hope to continue a rich tradition at Trinity to foster an environment that ‘connects’ youth in Christian fellowship both within and outside of the Church. We strongly hope to inspire youth to strive for a life that is enriched with service, charity, and love! We are eager to participate in community events and fellowship or service events with other churches that seek to shine a light on Jesus Christ. We believe that attending youth and church events should be fun and relevant to life. We hope to continually create an environment that is fun, relaxed, and Christ-centered! If you have any questions or if you are interested in checking out our Youth Group here at Trinity Lutheran Church, please feel free to contact us by phone, email, or just show up during posted office hours for a friendly chat.
Each of us serving in ministry have our own unique path that has led us to where we are today. Though it is impossible to really get to know someone from a brief bio on a webpage, here is a bit more about me. I was born in Los Angeles, CA. My parents were both college professors, somewhat hippies, and strongly encouraged me to pursue creative endeavors. I started learning to play the piano at the age of three and became quite good under the instruction of a family friend, Raymond Foote who was taught by Sergei Rachmaninoff. I got a recording contract for technical piano/keyboard at the age of seventeen. I worked for several record labels as a studio and stage keyboardist until I was twenty-five. Being always interested and encouraged by my family to pursue both intellectual and religious curiosities, I started attending college at age sixteen and a seminary at age twenty-one. I took classes in many different subjects searching for what I might want to do with my life. I earned a BA in Philosophy from University of Nevada Reno with minors in French and Religious Studies. Aside from studying theology and philosophy, I enjoy tennis, ultimate frisbee, physical fitness, chess, and hiking. I met my wife Georgina in 2009 and together we have one daughter, Lilly.
Hello, I’m Georgina, and I am blessed to be serving alongside my husband Mark Dorio in the role of Co-Youth Ministry Leader. We hope to share our love for Christ and community with all whom we encounter. We believe in the strength of God’s Love which shines through all of us in our talents and service. We also believe in promoting an atmosphere that reveals His Love in individuals and as a member of our community. We see that living in the love of God means being a part of sharing his blessings in the lives of others, whether it be reaching out with love to others, sharing fun and fellowship with Church family and/or community, or even by donating resources or time to service. Mark and I also have seen that a whole spirituality is best supported by a whole mind and a whole body, so we believe in communing with God through not only prayer, study, and looking for God in our everyday lives, but also through a healthy lifestyle that promotes peace of mind and the ability to follow where God is leading us. We look forward to sharing snacks to nourish the body, exercise and fun to nourish the mind and body, and bringing others together through faith in Jesus to nourish the soul. We believe that all elements are necessary for a whole community. We hope that you will stop by for a group meeting, event, or even to chat during office hours.
I would like to share a bit of my background and what has led me to wish to serve this church in Youth and Family Ministry. I am a Native Nevadan who was born in Carson City and lived in Northern Nevada for my whole life. I grew up surrounded by animals including the usual pets like dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and hamsters. I have also raised or trained more outdoor animals including sheep, pigs, turkeys, goats, and horses with the help of family, neighbors, and ranching families in my area. Animals were a lens through which I saw love from an early age, so I naturally wanted to be a veterinarian through most of my youth. I continued seeking this profession at the University of Nevada, Reno where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Along the way I learned that I have a passion for teaching and helping people of all ages. I was never sure what to do with this passion until I met my husband Mark and I observed all the service that he has been involved in through ministry in the time that we have shared. I didn’t grow up in a Church based family, and so my understanding of the ways that one could serve was limited. I also harbored some mistrust and many misconceptions about what it was to be a part of a church. I hope to be able to share Christ’s love and the enriching environment I have found with others who also may have mistrust or misconceptions about church or church going people. In 2010, Mark and I were blessed with our daughter Liliana, which has deepened my longing to work with the young, to watch them grow, and to see the wonder of God’s Love through their fresh perspectives.
We are currently looking for a part-time organist. For more information please contact the church office (775) 782-8153.
Hello, I am Rodger Banes, Trinity’s choir director as of October 17, 2018. As you will find by my accent, I am a Nevada transplant. I am originally from Mississippi and lived in Texas for 14 years until we followed my son and his family out here so we could be closer to our grandchildren.
In 2013, I began Voices of the Sierra, a community choir here in the valley. We presented “I Love Christmas, A Musical Celebration of Christmas” in 2018, and this was our 6th Christmas season together. Leading choir has been my passion and life’s career for many years. I am looking forward to leading you in worship. We will be singing once a month during both Sunday services.
